Head Checks – For lice/nits; to provide clearance for pre-school children to return to school after being sent home due to to having lice.

Nutrition Counseling/Managed Nutritional Therapy – Managed Nutritional Therapy is nutrition counseling provided by a Registered Dietitian.  MNT is a therapeutic approach to treating medical conditions and their associated symptoms via the use of a specifically tailored food plans devised and monitored by a Registered Dietitian.  The role of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) when administered by a Registered Dietitian is to reduce the risk of developing complications in pre-existing conditions such as diabetes as well as decrease the effects any existing conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, etc.

Well-Child Exams – School physicals and school dental screenings. (Note: Sports physicals must be done by a physician.)

WIC – WIC makes a difference for infants, children, and pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women. WIC provides healthy food, supports breastfeeding, gives advice for healthy eating and makes referrals to health care and other services such as immunizations, Medicaid and health screenings.  If you are pregnant, recently had a baby, are breastfeeding or have a child younger than 5 years of age, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) could help you.

Breast Feeding Classes

Offered Monthly- Call our clinic to participate in an upcoming Class! Topics of classes include breastfeeding basics, breastfeeding positions, managing problems, and how to know baby is getting enough milk.

Dental Screening and Fluoride Varnish

Dental varnish is a fluoride application that prevents tooth decay. We offer fluoride varnish from first tooth eruption through 5 years of age. We also provide dental screenings and can complete the school dental screening form for children.

Emergency Contraception

Available to women up to 5 days after sexual intercourse to prevent pregnancy. Emergency Contraception will not interrupt an established pregnancy or harm a developing embryo.

Biometric Screenings

We provide yearly biometric screenings for state employees to fulfill their Living Well Promise.

Our nurses are trained to check for lice/nits and can provide clearance for children to return to school after treatment.

Immunizations

We carry all routine vaccinations for infants, children, and adults to protect against vaccine preventable diseases throughout a person’s lifespan as well as COVID vaccines. We also provide some specialty vaccines such as typhoid and rabies if approved.

Lead Screening & Testing

Lead is a toxic heavy metal that can cause developmental and health problems. We offer lead screening and testing for children ages 1-5 years of age.

Pregnancy Test/Presumptive Eligibility

We offer pregnancy testing with linkage to resources and programs for women who test positive or negative. For those who are positive, we can provide Proof of Pregnancy and Presumptive Eligibility (short-term Medicaid) for those who qualify.

Reportable Disease

We monitor reports of all KY reportable communicable diseases for our county and conduct interviews, provide education, and manage outbreaks when needed. See our reportable disease page for information on reporting and disease info.

STD and HIV Testing

We provide testing for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, HIV, and Hep C. For those who test positive, we offer treatment for syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia as well as linkage to treatment services for Hep C and HIV. Azithromycin is commonly used in the treatment of Chlamydia, an infection caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. TB Screening/Testing/Treatment

We offer TB skin testing as well as care for people who have TB Infection and TB Disease.

Well Child Exams

Health physicals which include hearing, vision, and dental screenings from birth through 21 years of age. Hemoglobin, lead, and dental varnish may be available during the visit according to age as well as any needed immunizations. Well Child exams meet the school physical requirement for preschool, school entry, and 6th grade. The health department does not have the ability to perform sports physicals.

Women’s Health

Women’s Exams and birth control are no longer provided at our health department at this time. Sterling Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center that offers these services and also has a sliding scale which allows charges for these services to be discounted for those who qualify based on household income. They can be reached by calling: 859-404-7686. The Post-Clinic also provides services at discounted rates/no charge based on income and can be reached at 859-498-0231.

WIC

WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that serves infants, children (up to the age of 5), and pregnant and postpartum women. Participants get the latest nutrition and breastfeeding support from our Registered Dietician and Nurses to ensure babies, children, and mom’s stay healthy. WIC is proven to improve birth outcomes, nutrition of participants, and cognitive development of infants and children. Check out our WIC page for more information!

Gateway Community Action (located in medical plaza behind Vinson and Sons): 1-859-498-5345 (Warming Assistance and up to $100 to help with rent or other expenses)- Person must go there to sign papers or someone can go in their stead. They must bring proof of income and something with name and address of landlord on it. The money will be sent to the landlord; not the client. If no income, person must go and pick up paper for someone to fill out saying that the person has no income.

Pastora contracts with Pathways on Fridays. Patients do not have to have a social security number and can pay on a sliding scale fee. Pastora is there every Friday. They do mental health counseling and addiction services.
