Food Handler Training

To protect public health, all persons working in food service in Montgomery County are required to have a food handler card issued by the Health Department.   All persons who handle food and drink are required to have a valid food handler card on file in the establishment where they work.   This includes waiters, bartenders, dishwashers, cooks, and other kitchen workers. Certified food managers are not required to have a food handler card.

Food Handler Testing consists of reading a study booklet and taking a short written test.  The study booklet covers topics such as food preparation, dishwashing and sanitation, hand washing procedures, chemical storage, and other information related to safe storage, preparation, and serving of food and drink.  Food Handler Testing is offered at the Montgomery County Health Department Administrative offices on 108 E Locust St (Civic Center Building) in Mt.Sterling. Office hours are as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Tuesday 8:00 am – 6:00 pm Friday 8:00 am – 12:00 noon. Tests cost $15.00, and permits are good for 3 years.  Call 859-498-3808 for more information.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
